Poetry

Humility

We imagine ourselves as conquerors of the world.
We hide away in our sterilized, artificial caves,
Looking around with trepidation and disdain at what surrounds us.
all we have conquered are the memories of our ancestors.

spend a week outside without care for comfort.
Cross the streams and climb the mountains of your homeland.
spend time with the trees and the insects and the animals.
sleep under the New Moon stars.

Remember the ways we survived in your lands.
Remember the terrific splendor that envelops us.
Remember that you are an animal.
and you will remember humility.
